Ordering a celebration cake starts with one question: how big does it need to be? Here is a simple guide to sizes, servings and timing.
Count your guests, then decide on the slice
The number of slices depends on how you cut the cake. A cake served as dessert after a meal is usually cut into bigger slices than a cake served alongside other food at a party. As a rough guide for a round cake about 4 inches (10 cm) tall:
- 6-inch (15 cm): about 8 to 12 slices.
- 8-inch (20 cm): about 14 to 20 slices.
- 10-inch (25 cm): about 25 to 35 slices.
- Two tiers (6-inch on 8-inch): about 30 to 40 slices.
If you are unsure, tell us the number of guests and how the cake will be served, and we will suggest a size.
Order early
Celebration cakes are baked and decorated to order, so allow time. As a guide, ask us at least a few days ahead for a single-tier cake and several weeks ahead for a tiered or wedding cake. Busy weekends fill up first.
What to tell us when you order
- The date and time you need it, and whether you will collect it.
- The number of guests and how the cake will be served.
- The flavour, filling and frosting you would like.
- Colours, a theme, a photo for inspiration and any message for the top.
- Any allergies or dietary needs among your guests.
Getting it home safely
Carry the box flat, on the floor of the car or in the boot, never on a seat. Keep it cool and out of direct sun, and take the cake out of the fridge (if it has been chilled) about an hour before serving so the sponge and frosting soften.
