A wedding budget is not about spending as little as possible. It is about deciding together what matters most and making sure the numbers support it.
1. Agree on the total first
Before you look at venues, talk about how much you are comfortable spending in total, including any contributions from family. Write the number down and agree that it is the limit, not the starting point.
2. Choose your three priorities
Each of you picks the three things you care about most, for example the food, the photographs or the music. Spend more on these and keep the rest simple.
3. Split the budget into categories
- Venue and catering, usually the largest share
- Photography and video
- Attire and beauty
- Flowers, styling and stationery
- Music and entertainment
- Planner or coordinator fees
- A buffer of around 5 to 10 percent for surprises
4. Track every quote and payment
Keep one shared spreadsheet with each supplier, the quote, the deposit paid and the date the balance is due. Update it every time you sign something.
Remember that guest count affects almost every line. If the total feels tight, reducing the guest list usually saves more than cutting small details.
