Leftover pizza is one of life’s small pleasures, but a microwave turns the crust soft and chewy. These methods bring back a crisp base and bubbling cheese.
Best: a frying pan
- Put the slices in a cold, dry non-stick or cast-iron pan and set it over medium heat.
- After two to three minutes, when the base is crisp, add a few drops of water to the pan, away from the pizza, and cover with a lid.
- Leave it for another minute. The steam melts the cheese while the base stays crisp.
For a whole pizza: the oven
- Heat the oven to about 220 °C (425 °F) with a baking tray inside.
- Put the pizza on the hot tray and bake for 5 to 8 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the edge is crisp.
- Lay a sheet of foil loosely on top if the toppings start to brown too quickly.
Quick: the air fryer
Two or three slices fit in most air fryers. Heat at about 180 °C (350 °F) for 3 to 4 minutes and check halfway.
Storing leftovers safely
- Put leftover pizza in the fridge within two hours of delivery or serving.
- Keep it in an airtight box or wrapped well, and eat it within three to four days.
- Reheat it until it is steaming hot all the way through.
