Using the Free theme

The Free edition is the theme package: page, post, blog, archive, search and 404 templates, a header and footer, self-hosted fonts and four colour styles. You build the content with WordPress blocks, or keep the content you already have.

Open the Site Editor

Go to Appearance → Editor. This is where you change everything that appears on every page: header, footer, menu, colours and fonts.

Site title, logo and menu

  • Site title: change it in Settings → General, or click the title in the header in the Site Editor.
  • Logo: in the Site Editor, select the header, click the Site Logo placeholder next to the title and upload your logo. When a logo is set, the theme’s small brand mark is hidden.
  • Menu: open Navigation in the Site Editor, create a menu and add your pages. Until you do, the header lists your published pages.

Pick a colour style

In the Site Editor open Styles and choose one of the four styles. See Colours & branding to use your own brand colour.

Build a page

  1. Go to Pages → Add New Page.
  2. Add blocks with the + button: headings, paragraphs, images, columns, buttons, groups and more.
  3. For a page without the title area, open the page settings sidebar and set Template to Full-width page (no title).
  4. Use the block styles the theme adds: Card (Group), Checklist (List), Eyebrow (Paragraph), Soft corners and Icon tile (Image).

Set your homepage

Go to Settings → Reading. Choose Your latest posts for a blog homepage, or A static page and pick the page you built.

The footer credit

The Free edition shows a small credit link in the footer. The free licence requires it to stay. Pro Standard and Pro Unlimited let you remove it.
