How far ahead should you book your wedding planner?

Many couples wonder when to start looking for a wedding planner. The honest answer: it depends on how much of the planning you want to share, and on how popular your date and area are.

Full planning: as early as you can

If you would like help with everything, from the budget to the venue, book your planner before you book anything else. Twelve to eighteen months before the wedding is common, because venues and popular suppliers for weekend dates in peak season are often reserved a year or more ahead.

Partial planning: once the big pieces are in place

If you have already chosen your venue and a few key suppliers, partial planning usually starts around six to nine months before the day. Your planner reviews what you have, fills the gaps and builds the timeline.

On-the-day coordination: the final months

Coordination packages often begin two to three months before the wedding. Even so, it is worth reserving your coordinator earlier, because each person can only work a limited number of weddings per weekend.

Getting married sooner?

  • Be flexible on the day of the week: Fridays and Sundays often have more availability.
  • Ask venues about short-notice openings.
  • Keep the guest list and style simple, so there are fewer suppliers to book.

Whatever your timeline, a short consultation is the quickest way to find out what is realistic for your date.
