Your wedding photos are one of the few things you keep long after the day. Choosing a photographer is easier when you know what to look for.
Look at full galleries, not only highlights
A portfolio shows the best images. Ask to see two or three complete wedding galleries, so you can judge how the photographer handles a whole day: dark rooms, family groups, speeches and the quiet moments in between.
Find a style that feels like you
Some photographers work in a documentary way and step in rarely; others direct more and create posed portraits. Neither is better. Choose the approach that matches how you want to feel on the day.
Ask clear questions
- How many hours of coverage are included, and what does extra time cost?
- When will we receive sneak peeks and the full gallery?
- Is a second photographer included or available?
- How are the images delivered, and can we order prints and albums?
- What happens if you are ill on the day?
Read the contract
A good contract sets out the deposit, payment dates, delivery times, image use and what happens if plans change. Read it before you pay a deposit, and ask about anything that is unclear.
Finally, meet or call first. You will spend the whole day together, so it matters that you feel at ease.
