Many churches run groups for children during the Sunday service, and children are usually welcome in the main room too. A little preparation helps everyone relax.
Before you go
- Check the church website for children’s groups, ages and times.
- Tell your children what will happen: some singing, then a group with games and crafts, then back together.
- Bring a snack, a drink and a quiet toy for younger children.
When you arrive
Look for a children’s desk or ask at the door. Many churches ask for your child’s name, any allergies and a phone number, so they can reach you during the service. Ask whether you can stay with your child the first time: most churches are happy for you to do so.
Ask about safeguarding
A church that runs children’s groups should have a safeguarding policy and a named person you can talk to. It is reasonable to ask who leads the groups and how the church keeps children safe.
