A clean home is easier to keep when you spread the work across the week instead of saving it all for Saturday. Give each day one focus and a short time limit.
- Monday, kitchen: wipe the counters, hob and cupboard handles, clean the sink and take out the recycling.
- Tuesday, bathrooms: clean the toilet, basin and mirror, and give the shower or bath a quick scrub.
- Wednesday, dusting: dust shelves, skirting boards and lamps from top to bottom, so the dust falls onto floors you have not cleaned yet.
- Thursday, floors: vacuum every room, then mop hard floors in the kitchen and bathroom.
- Friday, bedrooms: change the bed linen, put clothes away and empty the bins.
- Weekend, reset: a ten-minute tidy of shared rooms and a look at anything you skipped.
Keep a small caddy with your everyday products so you can start straight away, and work from the top of a room to the bottom. If the week gets busy, a regular cleaner can take one or two of these days off your list.
