How we work
Approaches shaped around you
There is no single right way to do therapy. Your therapist may draw on one or more of these approaches and will always explain why.
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
Looks at the links between thoughts, feelings and actions, with practical tools you can try between sessions.
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
Helps you make room for difficult feelings and move towards what matters most to you.
Person-centred counselling
You lead the conversation. Your therapist listens closely, without judgement, and helps you find your own answers.
Mindfulness-based approaches
Simple ways to notice what is happening in the moment, often used alongside other approaches.
Psychodynamic therapy
Explores how past experiences and patterns in relationships may shape how you feel today.
Solution-focused therapy
A short, goal-based approach that builds on what is already working in your life.

Starting therapy, one small step at a time
You do not need to know exactly what to say. Many people begin with “I am not sure where to start”, and that is fine.

Together we agree how often to meet and which approach may suit you. You can change the plan at any time.

FAQ
Questions people often ask
Cannot find your answer? Ask us on your free 15-minute call, or send us an email.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, with a few legal limits. Your therapist may need to share information if there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, or a concern about a child’s safety. We explain these limits in your first session, and you can ask about them at any time.
How long is a session?
Individual and teen sessions last 50 minutes. Couples and family sessions last 75 minutes. Most people start with weekly sessions and change the rhythm later.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give us at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or move a session. Late cancellations and missed sessions are charged at the full fee, unless there is an emergency.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on you and what you would like to work on. Some people come for a few sessions, others for longer. We review how things are going together, and you can pause or stop whenever you choose.
Do you take insurance?
We are out-of-network for most plans. We give you a superbill to send to your insurer, and you can call them to ask what your plan covers for outpatient mental health care.
What if I need help urgently?
We are not a crisis service and cannot answer calls around the clock. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, US) or call 911. Outside the US, call your local emergency number.
Need help right now? We are not a crisis service. In the US, call or text 988, or call 911 in an emergency. Elsewhere, call your local emergency number.
