Hints are part of the game. Game masters watch each room so they can help when a group loses momentum. Venues handle hints in different ways, so ask during the briefing.
- How you ask: often by saying it out loud, pressing a button or using a screen or walkie-talkie in the room.
- What you get: usually a nudge towards the next step rather than the answer.
- Whether hints cost anything: some venues offer unlimited free hints, others add time to your score. Your game master will tell you.
A good rule: if the whole group has been stuck on the same lock for five minutes, ask. You will enjoy the rest of the room more, and you still solved it together.
