Questions parents ask
Cannot find your answer? Call us, or ask during your trial lesson.
What age can my child start?
Most children start piano and violin at six, guitar and drums at seven, and singing at about nine. A trial lesson is the easiest way to see whether now is the right time.
How much practice is needed at home?
Little and often works best. For beginners, ten to fifteen minutes on most days is plenty. The teacher writes down what to practise after every lesson.
Do we need to buy an instrument first?
No. The trial lesson uses ours. After that you can hire a violin or guitar from us by the term, and your teacher can help you choose one when you are ready to buy.
What happens if we miss a lesson?
Tell us at least 24 hours before and we will try to move the lesson to another time that week. Lessons missed without notice are not refunded (example policy).
Are exams compulsory?
No. Some students enjoy working towards a graded exam; others prefer learning songs and playing at recitals. Both are fine, and you can change your mind at any time.
Can adults learn from scratch?
Yes. Many of our students are adults who always wanted to play. Lessons go at your pace, and you never have to perform unless you want to.
Come and try a lesson
Tell us the instrument and the age of the player, and we will suggest a teacher and a time. The first lesson is free and there is nothing to bring.
