Regular short practice helps new players more than one long session before the next lesson. These are good starting points for the first months.
- Young children (6 to 8): 5 to 10 minutes on most days, ideally with a parent nearby.
- Older children and teens: 15 to 20 minutes on most days.
- Adult beginners: 15 to 30 minutes, whenever it fits, even three times a week helps.
- Start with the hard bit: spend the first few minutes on the passage your teacher marked, then play something you enjoy.
Keep the instrument somewhere you can see it, and practise at the same time each day so it becomes a habit. If practice turns into a fight, tell your teacher: they can change the pieces or the plan.
