A gentle routine prevents most of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">You will need<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Two buckets, ideally with a grit guard in each<\/li>\n\n<li>A pH-neutral car shampoo<\/li>\n\n<li>A soft wash mitt (microfibre or lambswool), plus a separate brush or mitt for the wheels<\/li>\n\n<li>Two or three large, clean microfibre drying towels<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step by step<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Work in the shade<\/strong> on cool paint, so the shampoo does not dry on the surface.<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>Clean the wheels first<\/strong> with their own brush and bucket of water, so brake and road grime never touch the paint mitt.<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>Rinse the whole car<\/strong> from top to bottom to remove loose dirt. A pre-wash snow foam helps if you have a foam lance.<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>Fill one bucket with shampoo and one with clean water.<\/strong> Wash one panel at a time, starting at the roof, in straight lines.<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>Rinse the mitt in the clean-water bucket<\/strong> before loading it with shampoo again. This keeps grit out of your wash water.<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>Rinse again<\/strong> and dry straight away by laying a towel on the panel and patting or gently pulling it, rather than rubbing hard.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Habits to avoid<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Washing-up liquid: it is not made for car paint and can strip wax and sealant.<\/li>\n\n<li>Dropping the mitt on the ground and carrying on. Swap it for a clean one.<\/li>\n\n<li>Old bath towels or chamois that have collected grit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the paint already shows swirls, a machine polish by a detailer can reduce them.
