In most cases your new pharmacy can move your prescriptions for you, and you do not need a new prescription from your doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Gather your details<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your full name, date of birth and address.<\/li>\n\n<li>The name and phone number of your current pharmacy.<\/li>\n\n<li>A list of the medicines you want to move, or your bottles with their labels.<\/li>\n\n<li>Your insurance or prescription plan card.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Ask your new pharmacy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Call or visit the new pharmacy and ask them to transfer your prescriptions. They contact your current pharmacy and move the prescriptions, including any refills left. You can usually do this by phone, in person or through the pharmacy&#8217;s app or website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Allow a little time<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A transfer can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, so start before you run low. Some medicines, such as certain controlled medicines, have special rules and may not be transferable or may need a new prescription. Your pharmacist will tell you if that applies to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Tidy up the loose ends<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cancel any automatic refills at your old pharmacy so you do not receive a medicine twice.<\/li>\n\n<li>Tell your doctor&#8217;s office which pharmacy you now use.<\/li>\n\n<li>Check that the new pharmacy has your allergies and other medicines on file.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A move is also a good moment to ask your new pharmacist for a medication review, especially if you take several medicines.
