When in doubt, go bigger: a rug that is too small makes the furniture look like it is floating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Living room<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Best: all the furniture in the seating area sits on the rug.<\/li>\n\n<li>Good: at least the front legs of the sofa and chairs sit on the rug.<\/li>\n\n<li>Leave a border of bare floor between the rug and the walls, often around 30\u201345 cm (12\u201318 in).<\/li>\n\n<li>Common sizes are 160 \u00d7 230 cm (5 \u00d7 8 ft), 240 \u00d7 300 cm (8 \u00d7 10 ft) and 270 \u00d7 360 cm (9 \u00d7 12 ft).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dining room<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rug should reach at least 60 cm (24 in) beyond the edge of the table on every side, so the chairs stay on the rug when someone sits down or pushes back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bedroom<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Place the rug under the lower two-thirds of the bed so it reaches out on both sides, ideally by about 45\u201360 cm (18\u201324 in). Alternatively, use a runner on each side of the bed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before you buy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mark the rug size on the floor with masking tape and live with it for a day or two.
