The three usual options are cans, crowlers and growlers. They all work well, as long as you know how long each one keeps and how to look after it.

Cans

Cans are filled and sealed at the brewery. They block all light and keep oxygen out, so they protect the beer best. Keep them cold and drink hop-forward beers like IPAs within a few weeks, when the hop aroma is at its best.

Crowlers

A crowler is a large can, usually 32 oz, filled from the tap and sealed in front of you. It keeps beer fresh for a few days to about a week if you keep it in the fridge. Once opened, finish it the same day.

Growlers

A growler is a reusable glass or steel jug, usually 64 oz, filled at the bar. It is a good choice for sharing with friends the same evening or the next day. After opening, the beer goes flat quickly.

Tips for fresher beer at home

Keep beer cold and out of the sun, from the taproom to your fridge.

Store cans and growlers upright.

Rinse your growler with hot water right after you finish it and let it dry with the cap off.

Pour into a clean glass to enjoy the aroma.

We check ID for every beer sold to go, and local laws decide what you can buy and when.
