A little planning makes it far easier to get your things back out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Choose the right kind of storage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Container storage<\/strong>: your things are loaded into a sealed container and kept at a warehouse. Good for whole-house moves.<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>Self storage<\/strong>: you rent a unit and can visit it yourself. Good if you need to reach items often.<\/li>\n\n<li>Ask about access hours, how the items are protected and what insurance applies while they are stored.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pack for storage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use boxes of the same few sizes so they stack safely.<\/li>\n\n<li>Clean and fully dry fridges, washing machines and garden tools before they go in.<\/li>\n\n<li>Wrap furniture in blankets or covers rather than plastic, so it can breathe.<\/li>\n\n<li>Do not store food, plants, fuel, paint or anything flammable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Make a simple list<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Number every box and keep a list of what is inside on your phone. Put the things you may need first, such as winter coats or paperwork, near the front.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting your things back<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Give your moving company a few days&#8217; notice of your delivery date, and check that the new home has parking and access ready.
