It does not have to be. Most collectors start small, with one piece they love, and learn as they go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Look a lot before you buy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Visit exhibitions, open studios and art fairs, and notice what you keep coming back to. Take photos of works you like (where photography is allowed) and look at them again a week later. Your taste becomes clearer the more you see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Set a budget you are comfortable with<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Original prints, drawings and small works on paper are often the most affordable way in. Decide on a range before you start talking prices, and remember to allow for framing, delivery and hanging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ask questions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Who is the artist, and where else have they shown?<\/li>\n\n<li>What is the work made of, and how should I care for it?<\/li>\n\n<li>Is it unique or part of an edition? If it is an edition, how many were made?<\/li>\n\n<li>What is included in the price, and what are the terms if I want to pay in parts?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A good gallery is happy to answer, to send more photos and to let you see the work in person before you decide.
